IIHF Women's World Championship

The Swiss national team beat Russia yesterday with 3-2 in overtime. It was their first win of the tournament.

The Swiss trailed Russia for a long time after they had been scored on twice early in the first period. Evelina Raselli then scored the first goal of the Swiss in the 48th minute. After a timeout 2:34 minutes before the end of the game, Phoebe Staenz managed to tie the game.

Laura Zimmermann then scored the game-winner for the Swiss in overtime, securing their ticket for the semifinals. The Swiss women will now face Canada. The game is scheduled for August 31. Puck-drop will be at 01:00 CET.
