IIHF Women's World Championship

The Finns beat the Swiss 4-0 in the last game ahead of the quarterfinals.

Switzerland had to make do without several of their core players as Lara Stalder, Alina Müller, Alessia Bächler, Nicole Vallario, and Stefanie Wetli were all sidelined either due to showing symptoms of a disease or injury (Wetli).

The Finns recorded two goals in the first period (Susanna Tapani, Elisa Holopainen) and two goals (Krista Parkkonen, Ronja Savolainen) in the second period. They also dominated the game in terms of shots: 44 to six. A worse result was prevented thanks to their defense and their goaltenders Saskia Maurer and Andrea Braendli.

The Swiss thus lost three of the four preliminary games and are thus placed fourth in their group. They will play against Japan in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
