After a disappointing 1-2 loss to Sweden, the Swiss women’s national team may likely end up in the relegation round.

It is high time now after this avoidable loss to Sweden. A qualification for the quarters is still possible, but Sweden is in the best position to notch this berth alongside the already qualified team from Germany. Daniela Diaz’s team was too harmless in this game and just could not make it work. The shots-on-goal numbers underline this: 15-24. Even though Switzerland tried to put pressure on the Swedes, they could not capitalize. Tellingly, Nicole Bullo scored Switzerland’s only goal on the third rebound in a confusing situation in front of the net. Despite this equalizer, Switzerland was not efficient enough for the remainder of this game. Consequently, Sweden scored the game winner in the last period – with a two-women advantage.

If Switzerland wants to qualify for the quarterfinals, they need to win their last game of the preliminary round against Germany, which will take place on Monday at 6 pm and will be streamed live on SRF.ch/rts.ch – and they need Czechia’s help.
