The 28-year-old Canadian has played 13 games (3 goals, 5 assists) with HC Fribourg-Gottéron this season. Originally, HCFG had the option to extend the contract with the forward, but they decided not to make us of it, which is why Stewart hit the market at the beginning of February.

The Lakers are happy to take him on, as according to team management, "the Canadian is with his physical presence in the slot a valuable addition to our team."

Anthony Stewart was drafted in 2003 by the Florida Panthers and has played 262 games (27 goals, 44 assists) in the NHL for the Florida Panthers, the Atlanta Thrashers and the Carolina Hurricanes. He joined the National League A in the middle of the season, after a brief stint in the KHL with Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg.
