On the first day of free agency in the NHL, the Florida Panthers have signed netminder James Reimer from the San Jose Sharks. With Reimer and Roberto Luongo, there seem to be difficult times ahead of Reto Berra.

Five-year contract and a reported salary of $3.4 million per year. These are the numbers of the Florida Panthers' new acquisition, James Reimer. A signing which has consequences for Swiss goalie Reto Berra. Traded to Florida from Colorado only recently, the 29-year-old faces heavy competition with Reimer and the aging Canadian goalie Roberto Luongo.

With Berra dropping to No. 3 in Florida's goalie hierarchy, it seems more than likely that he will see a lot of AHL-ice in the upcoming 2016-17 season. His new work place might thus not be in the sunshine state Florida, but in Springfield, Massachusetts, where the Panthers' AHL-affiliate, the Thunderbirds, are located. (tme)
