HC Lugano's Steve Hirschi has decided to retire at the end of this season. He will, however, stay with the Bianconeri. As of next season, he will work as a full-time coach in their youth section.

"I had been thinking about this for a long time, trying to find the best option for me and my family. And I'm happy I took this decision before the playoffs, so I can fully concentrate on the upcoming games," Hirschi states. Marc Werder, president of the Bianconeri's youth section, is delighted: "We are extremely proud to expand our squad of professional coaches with someone who has the DNA of Lugano in his heart."

HC Lugano announced about a week ago that they would not extend Hirschi's contract. The 34-year-old joined the Bianconeri in 2003 and will, thus, leave their NLA team after 14 seasons with them. This term so far, Hirschi has appeared in 39 games for Lugano, scoring five points (three goals, two assists).
