As the San Jose Sharks announced , Timo Meier will miss about four weeks due to mononucleosis (also called the kissing disease).

The 19-year-old forward will thus miss the upcoming preseason games with the Sharks. Meier was already not feeling well the last couple of days and was therefore not able to play the preseason opener on Tuesday and also missed the second and third preseason game.

After Meier had missed five days of training camp, he returned to the ice on Friday. What was thought to be a step throat, turned out to be something worse. With this diagnosis, he is likely to start the season with the Sharks' AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda.
