NLA - "Yes, now I can say it: I quit," Ivo Rüthemann says in an interview with the Berner Zeitung. However, the 37-year-old is not the only SCB-player who retires: also Hnat Domenichelli ends his career.

After already SCB's backup-goalie Olivier Gigon decided to retire at the age of 37, Ivo Rüthemann's career has also come to an end. The 37-year-old has decided to call it quits instead of playing with a team that is not playing for the Championship title.

"I would have loved to keep playing for Bern," Rüthemann told the Berner Zeitung. "But the club did not want to renew my contract. It's a decision I have to accept."

Ivo Rüthemann has played for SC Bern since 1999. He completed a total of 1,072 games in the National League A (311 goals and 398 assists), which makes him the NLA-record-holder in games played.

In addition to Rüthemann, also Hnat Domenichelli decided to retire at the age of 38. The Swiss-Canadian forward moved to SC Bern from HC Lugano in the middle of last October.

Domenichelli joined HC Ambrì-Piotta in 1999 coming from the Houston Aeros in the AHL. In Ambrì, he formed a duo infernale with his congenial line-mate Jean-Guy Trudel. After five years in the Leventina, he moved to their rival HC Lugano, where he played for another six years.

Hnat Domenichelli completed a total of 499 games in the National League A and scored 544 points (244 goals and 300 assists).
