Due to a foot injury that ended his 800th game with SC Bern early back in November, also Marco Bührer's season and career with SCB ended abruptly. Now, the 36-year-old has decided to hang up his skates for good.

"I will end my career at the end of this season," Marco Bührer says in an interview with Blick. "I had a great time in Bern, I like looking back at it. I'm proud and thankful." To sign with another team would not have been an option for Bührer in the current situation: "I didn't want to sign anywhere and just see if it works out [with my injury]. When I play I want to be reliable."

Marco Bührer joined SC Bern back in 2001 when he was set to fill the shoes of legendary goaltender Renato Tosio. Since then, he has played a total of 800 games for the Bears, winning three Championship titles and one SIHF Cup-title. (tme)
