HC Fribourg-Gottéron has found the replacement for Marc-Antoine Pouliot with Michal Birner. The club and the Czech forward have agreed to terms on a contract for the reminder of the running 2016-17 season.

Michal Birner most recently played for Traktor Chelyabinsk in the KHL. After a total of twelve games since season start (one assist), however, the club and the Czech international have decided to prematurely terminate their one-year contract.

Between 2006 and 2009, the 2004 4th round pick of the St. Louis Blues suited up in 141 AHL games, before he moved back to Europe and continued his career with Liiga's TPS Turku, KalPa, KHL's HC Lev Praga and finally Czechia's Bili Tygri Liberec last season.

Michal Birner is expected to arrive in Fribourg by the end of this week.
