As Kloten's team manager Pascal Müller confirms to the Tages-Anzeiger, Tommi Santala will leave EHC Kloten with immediate effect.

The 37-year-old forward, who has played in 462 games for Kloten (413 points), requested to be released from the team in order to be able to join a KHL team. Which team exactly he will sign with has not been disclosed, but, as the same source speculates, it could be Metallurg Magnitogorsk.

Team manager Müller did not see the Finn's request coming, especially as they had negotiated with the forward about a contract extension. He does, however, not see any reason to hold him back: "There is no point in keeping a player against his will." Now, Kloten will have to look at the import-player market once again.
