According to TSN reporter Frank Seravalli, Scottie Upshall signed a short-term contract with HC Ambrì-Piotta. The deal will run until Christmas when "Upshall hopes to represent Canada at the Spengler Cup."

Upshall has tried to get back into the NHL, he signed a professional tryout contract with the Edmonton Oilers in 2018 and one with the Dallas Stars in 2019 but was released from both teams before the start of the season.

The 36-year-old was a first-round pick by the Nashville Predators in 2002. He went on to appear in over 800 NHL games for the Nashville Predators, the Philadelphia Flyers, the Phoenix Coyotes, the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Florida Panthers and the St. Louis Blues. In the 2017-18 season, he recorded seven goals and twelve assists in 63 games for the St. Louis Blues.
