The 38-year-old is not the only defenseman at the end of his contract. The same applies to David Prysi and Stefan Ulmer.

Beat Forster

"There has been no progress [...] in this case," Martin Steinegger, team manager of EHC Biel, tells the Journal du Jura. "We are still waiting to see if he wants to continue [his playing career]."

Forster is currently in his fourth season with EHC Biel. The defenseman has recorded two goals and one assist in 27 games this season.

David Prysi and Stefan Ulmer are also at the end of their respective deals with EHC Biel. It is also not yet clear whether they will be able to stay in Biel. Whereas Prysi is currently suiting up for HC La Chaux-de-Fonds (three assists in 33 games), Ulmer is sidelined by a concussion.

Another question mark in regard to the defense is the number of import players EHC Biel will acquire. According to Steinegger, they do not know yet whether they will start the season with one or two import players on defense.
