Chris McSorley and GSHC: sad last chapter of a long relationship

According to the Tribune de Genève, Chris McSorley will file a claim for payment with the employment tribunal in March at the latest. A conciliation attempt seems not to have been fruitful, so the two parties are likely headed towards a full-on legal battle.

Not only is there a lot of money at stake (several millions) but it is also his reputation Chris McSorley is worried about: "I've heard from witnesses that the current management suggested that I may have received commissions for player transfers. That never happened! It has never happened! They want to smear my name, my reputation. A lot can be said about me. But I'm not a thief!"

At the heart of the battle is Chris McSorley's contract with Genève-Servette HC. His ten-year deal, which was signed in 2014 and also includes the sale of his shares, includes an option for a contract extension until 2028 if certain criteria are met.

McSorley's lawyer Cédric Berger insists that those objectives have indeed been met and that the current management knew what McSorley's contract contained when they took over operations: "The current management, which had access to the various contracts at the time of the buyback and which is not supposed to be unaware of their content, therefore logically inherits them and must honor them."
