Swiss Ice Hockey

The fact that UPC refused to allow Swisscom to broadcast live ice hockey for years violated antitrust law, the Competition Commission (COMCO) has ruled.

The Competition Commission has fined UPC.

As the COMCO informs, UPC has abused their market dominance by refusing Swisscom any offer to broadcast live ice hockey until summer 2020. UPC has thus hindered Swisscom in their competitive activities. As a consequence, the broadcaster will have to pay a fine of CHF 30 million, the commission has ruled.

UPC has already announced that they do not agree with the decision of the COMCO and that they will therefore appeal the decision at the Federal Administrative Court.

UPC acquired the exclusive rights to broadcast matches from the Swiss ice hockey championship for the years 2017 to 2022. As of today, the program of MySports will be available for Swisscom customers for a monthly fee of CHF 25.-, UPC also announced.
