While SC Bern's goalie situation has been settled for this season, it remains to be seen who will defend the cage in the 2020-21 season.

Tomi Karhunen to stay?

According to the Berner Zeitung, team manager Alex Chatelain is not yet ready to offer Tomi Karhunen a contract for the next season, but it looks like he might have a chance to stay.

As Chatelain tells the newspaper, the Finn could imagine supporting Philipp Wüthrich in his development next season by sharing starting goaltender duties. SC Bern signed the young goaltender before the departure of Niklas Schlegel who was expected to be SCB's starting goaltender for some time to come and thus give Wüthrich time to come into his own.

With the market being pretty much devoid of Swiss goaltenders, the Bears will have to sign an import goaltender anyway. If Tomi Karhunen is indeed willing to give Wüthrich his fair share of starts, he might thus be the solution for the dilemma SC Bern is facing in regards to their goaltending situation.
