Franzén has been with the SCL Tigers for two years, working as an assistant under Ehlers. With the latter's departure, the 52-year-old will move to the head coach position, with one year left on his initial contract.

"Rikard has great ambitions. We are convinced by his abilities and expertise. With his work, he has earned himself this position," team manager Marc Eichmann states.

The Swede has mainly been working as assistant coach (for Langnau, Lausanne HC, and AIK) throughout his career so far, with only part of a season as head coach of AIK. According to the Berner Zeitung, the ZSC Lions were also interested in Franzén albeit as an assistant for Rikard Grönborg.

The Tigers also announced the return of their former athletic coach Nik Hess. He will resume the same position as before leaving them a year ago. His successor and predecessor Nicolas Lüthi will move to work in private business.
