As Herburger told Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung, he has already signed a deal for the upcoming season and will thus not return to his home country for the 2022-23 season.
The 33-year-old forward, who is in possession of a Swiss players' license and thus does not count against the import player contingent, however, did not reveal for which Swiss team he is going to suit up next year.
Herburger joined HC Lugano from Austria's EC Red Bull Salzburg in summer 2020 and has appeared in 89 games for them ever since, recording 14 goals and 24 assists. His contract with the Bianconeri is set to expire this spring.
