As he tells Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung (relayed by the Aargauer Zeitung), he would like to return to Austria. Moreover, EHC Olten's team manager Marc Grieder would apparently not stop him from leaving if he were to find a new team.

Martin Ulmer, who is in possession of a Swiss players' license, last played in Austria in the 2010-11 season, when he suited up for the Vienna Capitals. Since 2011, he has been playing in Switzerland. Last season, he recorded eight goals and ten assists in 36 regular season games for EHC Olten.
