As New Jersey's general manager Tom Fitzgerald tells NHL.com, he wants to speak with Meier's agent Claude Lemieux in the coming days. "We would love nothing better to tie him up long term," Fitzgerald explains. "That's our goal. That's what Claude and I will go through."
Timo Meier joined the New Jersey Devils at the end of February in a multi-player trade with the San Jose Sharks. Since then, Meier appeared in 21 games for them, in which he recorded nine goals and five assists.
On July 1, Timo Meier could become a restricted free agent, and an unrestricted free agent next year.
