According to Elliotte Friedman (Sportsnet), the New Jersey Devils will take Timo Meier to arbitration. The Swiss forward's last contracted year saw him get a salary of $10 million, meaning his qualifying offer is set at that amount.
New Jersey's general manager Tom Fitzgerald told NHL.com last week that their goal is to tie Meier to the organization long-term. A wish that Meier apparently shares, as Fitzgerald told beat reporter Amanda Stein today. Apparently, Meier hopes to stay with the Devils for the next eight years and has asked his agent to negotiate accordingly.
Meier, who was traded to the Devils at the end of February, recorded nine goals and five assists in 21 regular-season games for them.
