The 2020 IIHF World Championship will be hosted by Switzerland with venues in Zurich and Lausanne. Florian Kohler, who currently chairs the organizing committee, has decided to announce his resignation at the upcoming board meeting on December 27.
Jean-Marie Viaccoz, Kohler's successor, was president of the Regio League from 1999 until the merger with Swiss Ice Hockey and has been vice president of the youth and amateur sports since June 2011. Since the beginning of January, 2017, he has also been prefect of the district of Sierre.
"I am proud to be able to represent the World Championship in Switzerland as president of the organizing committee. A World Championship in our own country is a great opportunity to position our ice hockey internationally. I'm very much looking forward to it," Viaccoz elaborates in SIHF's press release.
