Akira Schmid has been named the 2020-21 Goaltender of the Year by the United States Hockey League. It is the first time, the netminder has been recognized with this particular honor.

Schmid has been playing in the United States Hockey League for the past three seasons. In 36 games for the Sioux City Musketeers this season, he posted a .921 save percentage and a 2.01 goals-against average (best of the league).
