Kukan sustained a medial meniscus tear and an articular cartilage injury on January 2 and missed the next 29 games of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The defenseman appeared in 33 games for the Blue Jackets before his injury, the most games he had ever played in a season in the NHL. On average, he was on the ice for 15:58 minutes.
