Switzerland was originally supposed to host the 2020 World Championship. The tournament was, however, cancelled due to the pandemic. While the host cities then were supposed to be Zürich and Lausanne, the games will now take place in Zürich (Swiss Life Arena) and Fribourg (BCF Arena).

As for the 2023 World Championship, the tournament, which was supposed to take place in Russia, will now be set in Tampere (FInland) and Riga (Latvia). The tournament will last from May 12 to May 28, 2023.

Switzerland was also awarded the 2023 men's U18 World Championship. The host cities have yet to be determined, but candidates are Basel, Biel, Langnau, and Porrentruy. The women's U18 World Championship will also take place in Switzerland, albeit in 2024. The venue has not yet been determined, but the SIHF plans to host the tournament in the Canton of Ticino.
