American forward Derek Ryan, who played for the Carolina Hurricanes and their AHL team, the Charlotte Checkers, last season, seems to be interested in joining a Swiss team, as the Swedish newspaper Expressen reports.

Ryan played for Örebro HK of the SHL during the 2014-15 season before he decided to try his luck in the NHL. The 29-year-old, however, does not consider it an option to return to Sweden.

If he does not sign a new contract in North America, he will focus on Russia and Switzerland. "At first, I considered a return to Sweden, but my agent advised me that Switzerland would be a better option for this stage of my career. I haven't played there before but have only heard positive things," Ryan explains.

Last season, Ryan played six NHL and 70 AHL games. For the Charlotte Checkers, he scored 23 goals and 32 assists for a total of 55 points. (bsc)
