The 38-year-old reportedly decided to give up his job following the 2016 World Championship in Moscow despite a new contract offer on behalf of the Finnish Ice Hockey Association. Lauri Marjamäki, current head coach of Liiga's Kärpät Oulu, is set to take over his position.

During his club coaching career from 1998 to 2014, Kari Jalonen has won a total of seven Championship titles with TPS Turku, Kärpät Oulu and IFK Helsinki in Finland's Liiga. (rlu)
