Randegger did not receive a new contract from SC Bern after the 2017-18 season. According to the Berner Zeitung, he had talks with Lausanne HC and the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers over the course of the summer, but nothing came off it. He thus decided to put an end to his career.

«It is the right step at the right moment»
Gian-Andrea Randegger, retired

While he misses the competitiveness of the game, he is convinced to have made the right decision: "It is the right step at the right moment. I was able to go my own way in ice hockey and got the most out of it."

Randegger is a product of HC Davos and played for the HCD, SC Langenthal, HC Ambrì-Piotta, Genève-Servette HC, the Kloten Flyers (now EHC Kloten), and SC Bern throughout his career. In 532 National League games, the two-time champion recorded ten goals and 34 assists.
