The Omaha Lancers have traded goalie Akira Schmid to the Sioux City Musketeers, as they announced yesterday.

The 19-year-old was one of three goalies on the USHL-team's roster and made the fewest starts among them, which was at least partially caused by him being sidelined due to a lower-body injury.

“Simply put, you cannot have two import goalies in the USHL. Akira did a terrific job for the Omaha Lancers. We wish him the best of luck moving forward. ” Lancers' General Manager and head coach David Wilkie comments the trade.

Schmid will now join the currently second-to-last placed Musketeers."We weren't in the hunt for another goaltender but any time you can add a player with a world-class pedigree like Schmid to your locker room you do what it takes to make the deal. Akira is one of the best goaltenders in this league - he's proven that time and time again. We're excited to add him to this group as we push forward in the second half," their General Manager Andy Johnson is quoted on the team's homepage.
