National League

A hard-fought final series has come to an end. Thanks to tonight's 2-0 road victory in the all-decisive Game 7 at the Resega in Lugano, the ZSC Lions have claimed their ninth Swiss Championship title in club history.

It was ZSC's captain Patrick Geering who gave the Lions an early lead in the 7th minute of play. Just seven minutes later, Miranda netted in for the alleged 2-0. His goal, however, was disallowed after video review due to a previous slashing against HCL's netminder Merzlikins. After, the game remained scoreless up to the 60th minute, when Kenins sealed the Championship for his team with an empty-netter.

On their way to the title, the ZSC Lions, who finished this year's regular season in 7th place, eliminated EV Zug in the quarters (4-1), defeated 2017 Swiss Champ SC Bern in the semis (4-2), and decided the finals against HC Lugano in an all-decisive Game 7 at the Resega in their favor, after being up 3-1 in the series.

It is ZSC's ninth Championship title in club history after 1936, 1949, 1961, 2000, 2001, 2008, 2012, and 2014. Along with the glorious season end, a glorious career comes to a close, too. Mathias Seger, who has been part of the Lions since 1999, has officially retired. The 40-year-old defender and the team's captain from 2005-2017 suited up in almost 1170 National League games in his career, recording 475 points (121 goals, 354 assists).
