Just after his club EHC Biel dropped out of the playoffs, the 31-year-old said that he would do everything to stay and not move to Geneva.

"Yes, I will be in Geneva," Maurer says to the Journal du Jura and explains the controversy with journalists taking his words out of context, claiming that he said it "in the heat of disappointment just after our elimination against Bern."

Looking back at his contract talks with EHC Biel earlier in the season, he does not make a secret out of it that his departure was not his choice in the first place: "I would have stayed, but it turned out otherwise."
