With the desire to start the season with six healthy import players, SC Bern has inked Joona Luoto to a try-out contract that will last until the international break in mid-November. The contract contains an option for an extension through the whole season.
Luoto, who last played in North America within the organization of the Columbus Blue Jackets, is expected to bring physicality, skills, and energy to the team. Having played for Tappara Tampere for four seasons, the big winger already knows SC Bern's head coach Jussi Tapola.
Last season, Luoto suited up in seven games with the Columbus Blue Jackets scoring one goal. He mostly played in the AHL with the Cleveland Monsters, collecting 25 points (14 goals) in 45 games.
