National League

The Finnish defender has signed a one-year extension with the Grenats, binding him to Geneva until 2025.

Sami Vatanen, the top scorer of the National League among defenders, has decided to stay for an additional season with Genève-Servette HC. It will be the fourth season with the Grenats, which he joined in 2021 from the NHL. With this signing, GSHC now has two imports under contract for the next season, the other being fellow defender Theodor Lennström.

Team manager Marc Gautschi is evidently happy about the extension: "Since his arrival in Geneva, Sami has undoubtedly become one of the best defenders in Switzerland and Europe. His attacking qualities are second to none and are indispensable to the team in achieving our goals."

This season, Vatanen scored four goals and collected 18 assists in 25 games, making him the most prolific defender in the league. Last season, the 32-year-old was one of the key members of the title-winning team with 13 points in the playoffs.
