As Magnus Nygren confirms to NWT, he has signed a one-year contract with a Swiss team for the upcoming season. The name of the team, however, is not yet known.

Nygren's contract with Färjestad BK contained an out-clause, which he now made use of: "We're having a baby soon and I was offered an opportunity for an adventure and we, my girlfriend and I, concluded that this is an adventure we want to do now."

In early March, La Liberté had reported that HC Fribourg-Gottéron has signed Nygren for the upcoming season. Team manager Christian Dubé as well as the player himself, however, denied this news shortly afterwards. "He received a much more lucrative offer, we couldn't afford him," Dubé confirmed to the same source today.

According to DansLesCoulisses, based on an undisclosed source, the 'much more lucrative offer' might have been made by HC Lugano. However, this has yet to be confirmed and should rather be taken as a rumor, at least for the moment.

Nygren appeared in 58 games for Färjestad this season, scoring 13 goals and 23 assists. The 26-year-old defenseman's contract would have been valid until the end of the 2018-19 season.
