Although the club managed to halve their net losses compared to the previous year, the numbers remain in the red. For the 2016-17 season, HC Fribourg-Gottéron suffered a net loss of CHF 129,834.

As the main reason for the bad numbers the club cites the disappointing season. The poor results had a negative impact on ticket and merchandise sales and caused a reduction in catering income.

The team finished the regular season 11th and had to play the playout rounds and the playout final series against Ambrì. Additionally, there was a change behind the Dragons' bench, when Larry Huras took over as head coach from Gerd Zenhäusern in September last year.

On another note, the BCF Arena will be remodeled. Construction, which will cost an estimated CHF 70 million, is scheduled to start in the summer of 2018 and should be finished sometime in 2020. The new arena (photo) will have a capacity of 8,500.
