Already at the beginning of June, EHC Winterthur presented a financial loss of almost CHF 190,000 for the 2016-17 season. As the Landbote writes, there was also a slight decrease in attendance, although the team remained in the race for a playoff spot for quite a long time.

EHC Winterthur's new president Rolf Löhrer wants to accomplish a turnaround in both sporting and financial regards. For the upcoming season, he aims at "a conservative black zero," as he says to the Landbote. On the sporting side, Löhrer wants to clinch a playoff spot for the first time since the team was promoted two years ago: "Every player wants this!"

One measure to accomplish this goal is the signing of an import player. But then again, the financial part is in their way: "Right now, we don't have the budget for an import player," Löhrer says. However, they want to raise the funds until the beginning of the season: "A good import player can improve the team. We cannot take any financial risks, though."
