The Nashville Predators' on-ice leadership has been reduced from three to one. With Mike Fisher retiring and James Neal picked by the Vegas Golden Knights in the expansion draft, only Swiss defenseman Roman Josi remains. While Canadian defenseman Ryan Ellis has replaced James Neal as an alternate Captain, Josi would be the logical successor of Mike Fisher. Could he become the eighth captain in the history of the Predators?

Coach Peter Laviolette was already convinced of Josi's leadership qualities when he named him alternate captain a year ago: "Roman's a guy that works hard in the summer and practices hard every day. He's good with his teammates," Laviolette said on the club's website. "He's a great addition to the team and our leadership group; the work ethic he brings to our team is top notch."

Roman Josi, 27, was drafted by the Nashville Predators in 2008 as the 38th overall pick in Round 2. Since 2010 he is part of the Predators organisation. While he played his first season overseas for the Milwaukee Admirals in the AHL, he has been a regular for the Predators since 2011. In 458 games in the NHL, he put up 263 points (72 goals, 191 assists).
