Niederreiter will be a restricted free agent after this season and does not want to risk getting injured in a, for him, very important off-season. As for Sbisa, he will become a father and will thus focus on his family this off-season. Reto Berra is currently not feeling 100 percent healthy.
Timo Meier, Mirco Müller, Tanner Richard, Joël Vermin, and Christoph Bertschy will all play in the AHL playoffs and/or might be Black Aces for their respective NHL teams. Preparation time would thus be too short for the players.
Sven Andrighetto, Denis Malgin, and Sven Bärtschi, on the other hand, have already agreed to join the team. Mark Streit, Kevin Fiala, Roman Josi, and Yannick Weber would also be available to the national team in case of an early out in the playoffs.
