This season, the defenseman played for the U20 team of EHC Biel, recording 21 points in 40 games. The 17-year-old also took part in the U18 World Championship, putting up three assists. With the 16th pick, the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL selected defenseman Inaki Baragano, 17, who collected 30 points in 50 games with the U20 team of Lausanne. Also Baragano took part in the U18 WC (one point).

Keanu Derungs, forward of the juniors of EHC Kloten (14 points in 35 games), was selected 28th overall by the Victoria Royals of the WHL. Gaétan Jobin and Simon Knak were selected at the 39th and 40th position by QMJHL's Charlottetown Islanders and respectively WHL's Portland Winterhawks. Jobin recorded 46 points in 52 games with Gottéron U20, while Knak, teammate of Derungs, collected 33 points in 43 games. Both forwards participated in the U18 WC. Finally, Giancarlo Chanton, defenseman of the junior team of Langnau (nine points in 21 games), was selected 47th overall by the Niagara IceDogs of the OHL. In seven games at the U18 WC, Chanton recorded one assist.

During the CHL import draft, every team in the Canadian Hockey League, which includes the three major junior ice hockey leagues based in Canada, namely WHL, OHL, and QMJHL, may select the rights to eligible import players. An import is classified as a player who does not have residency status in either Canada or the United States.
