"The decision to step down as a referee wasn't easy," Wehrli says in the SIHF's press release. "After a season like this one, with Spengler Cup, National League final, World Championship and Olympic Games, as well as all the highlights before these, I can say: 'mission completed'!," he explains.

The 40-year-old has been a referee since 1992. Since the 2010-11 season, he has been a head referee and also officiated in nine World Championships, nine Spengler Cups, the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang this year, and more.
