WOMEN'S LEAGUE

The winners of the qualification round of the Swiss Women’s Hockey League…are the ZSC Lions … and the Neuchâtel Hockey Academy. The Academy beat the Lions in the last game of this round and now they are tied in the ranking.

At the end of the qualification stage (ten games), the battle for the top spots in the playoffs remains an interesting one. None of the three top teams (ZSC Lions, Neuchâtel Hockey Academy, and HC Lugano) left this round unscathed. All of them lost one of the duels; Lugano also had to accept a loss to Bomo Thun. This weekend, the Neuchâtel Hockey Academy caused the last upset of this round with a convincing 7-3 victory over the ZSC Lions. They got one back for the loss one week ago. Goaltender Andrea Brändli, national team defender Sarah Forster (one goal, three assists), and the strong trio of forward Breehan Polci (photo) (three goals) , Stefanie Marty (two goals, one assist), and Marilyn Fortin (one goal, three assists) decided the game for their team.

Thus, the ZSC Lions and the Neuchâtel Hockey Academy enter the Masterround with twelve points each, right ahead of HC Lugano with one point fewer. In the battle for the fourth playoff spot, SC Weinfelden is a contender once again after a 2-1 OT win over BOMO Thun. Thanks to the first win in the first game with their new head coach Adrian Gischig, they are now only three points behind BOMO Thun. Next weekend already, the two teams will face each other in the first round of the Masterround.

SWHL A, Results, 10th round- BOMO Thun – Weinfelden 1-2 n.V. (0-0, 0-1, 1-0, 0-1). ZSC Lions – Neuchâtel Hockey Academy 3-7 (1-3, 2-2, 0-2).

Ranking (in brackets: halved points for the Masterround)- 1. ZSC Lions 10/24 (12). 2. Neuchâtel Hockey Academy 10/24 (12). 3. Lugano 10/21 (11). 4. BOMO Thun 10/13 (7). 5. Weinfelden 10/8 (4). 6. Reinach 10/0 (0).
