WOMEN'S LEAGUE

Last year’s champion and last year’s runner-up made it the playoff final once again. The ZSC Lions and HC Lugano beat BOMO Thun and the Neuchâtel Hockey Academy in their respective semi-finals.

The series between the Lions and BOMO was a one-sided affair. The favorites won all three games and were only slightly challenged in the first game (a 2-1 victory). With three goals, Christine Meier was the Lions’ matchwinner in the decisive third game. BOMO tried to suffocate the ZSC Lions potent offense, but it was not enough. With a 4-0 victory, the Lions qualified for their eighth consecutive final.

Lugano laid the foundation for their fourteenth consecutive playoff final with a 9-2 victory on home ice against the Neuchâtel Hockey Academy. Lugano took the lead after two minutes and started to build on it. After the 28th minute, the visiting team changed their goalie (Vuignier for Friant), but it was already too late. Two outstanding players among the Ticinese were Romy Eggimann and Evelina Raselli; both scored three goals.

Game 4 began as Game 3 had ended. Lugano carried a 4-0 lead into the locker room after two periods. However, Neuchâtel would not go quietly, scoring four goals in the fourth period. Nonetheless, Evelina Raselli secured the win for the Bianconere with her fifth playoff goal three minutes before the end of the third period.

The playoff final between the ZSC Lions and HC Lugano could be anyone’s game. In the regular season, both teams won their two home games.

In the playout series between SC Weinfelden and SC Reinach, there will be a Game 5 next weekend. The loser of this series will either face Brandis or the GCK Lions in the League Qualification.
